I know a girl who hides within me. She is kind and loving, but she’s trapped. She fights to get out, but only a rare few know who she truly is. She loves herself, but at the same time, she hates her self. She is kind to others, but she beats herself. I wish I could help her, but I just can’t get the cage open. I can’t let her out no matter how hard I try. She rattles the bars and cries out, but I walk away. I leave her alone in the dark where she cries softly to herself. I wish I could go back and let her out, but I just can’t do it. The key is missing, and though I’ve searched far and wide, I honestly can’t find it. I think I need someone to help me with the search so she can once again be free and happy. I’d love to see her dancing or running in the rain. I miss her smile, and she needs my help to bring it back.

Bashful, There is a "Key" you say that is helpful when one you find that is locked away in a prison of bondage, is oppressed, discouraged and hurting, in need of release...here I shall join you in your search. As Life Flows on. Connie

Bashful, as I've so often thought before, you should really consider publishing your work! As a poet myself, I value good poetry, and your's is exceptionally well written!

Writing something with a creative flair yet something people can relate to and comprehend, that's the key. You've done just that with this piece. Nice work.
